Webdec 21, 2016 · from its opening simile likening the poet’s mental state to the effects of drinking hemlock, to the poem’s later references to ‘a draught of vintage’ and ‘a beaker. Through the grace of god and many prayers i am still clean and sober after. Webpoetry allows us to confront and explore the harsh realities of alcohol abuse, shedding light on the personal struggles and societal impact of addiction. I myself was an alcoholic/ meth addict for 14 years.
